FAQs
Planning & Booking
I get seasick, will this be an issue on VIAGGIO?
This is always a sensitive issue that we do not take lightly. No one enjoys being seasick and, while we won't tell you it never happens, it's rare for us to have guests get sick while aboard. We have a couple secret weapons that help in this matter.
1) Captain Trig (who may or may not get seasick himself) is mindful of the fact that someone may not feel well and typically tries to plan around that. This is one of the reasons we've...
moreWho is going to contact me when I fill out the contact form?
You will be called or sent an email reply by a real and trusted representative of our company. More than likely you will speak to a crew member or owner. We don't take lightly that you've taken time to inquire with us and we want to make sure your questions are answered quickly and accurately.
We are also of the belief that cruising the Pacific Northwest and Alaska sells itself, so we prefer to approach your inquiry as an information...
moreHow do I book a trip?
When you decide you would like to book a trip with us, a signed contract and a 50% deposit to hold your date is collected. At that point, those dates are reserved for you and WILL NOT be available to anyone else. 90 days prior to your departure date, we will collect the other 50% and ensure that we have everything properly arranged for your unforgettable cruise aboard VIAGGIO.

moreDo you allow smoking?
While your crew will not smoke, we do understand that you or some of our guests may enjoy tobacco products. For this reason, we do make a couple outdoor areas available with an ash tray for such requests.
moreAre pets allowed?
By special arrangement, we can accommodate pets. We simply take an additional (refundable) damage deposit and request that you be mindful of the fact that we will have to take your pet to shore multiple times throughout the day.
moreWhat happens after I book my trip?
Shortly after booking your trip, you will receive a packet with some information and preference forms. These packets will provide some additional information for you and anyone accompanying you, as well as ask some questions we would like the answers to. Once you send the preference forms back to us, we will build a custom itinerary and menu to fit your specific needs.
We will continue to make check-in contact as your trip gets closer...

How do you recommend I get to Alaska?
We recommend Alaska Airlines. Until recently they have been the only airline flying to/from Alaska. You may book your flights directly through their site at: https://www.alaskaair.com Delta does fly into Juneau and Sitka, but their service can be less consistent.
If you would like to travel by car or on foot, you can book travel on the...
moreOnce I'm in town, how do I get to the boat?
Depending on where and when you are embarking/disembarking, we will help arrange ground transportation for you with a taxi company or pick you up in one of our passenger vans.
moreWhere can we board the boat?
Most of our trips begin/end in a town serviced by Alaska Airlines and Alaska Marine Highway including: Ketchikan, Juneau, Wrangell, Sitka or Petersburg.
However, we can actually board you nearly anywhere via seaplane. If you would like to arrive via seaplane, we can help you arrange a carrier.
moreCan we come early or stay late?
While we always try to accommodate schedules, our days in port are limited and very full preparing VIAGGIO for your cruise. We have recommended some hotels for your convenience.
moreCan you recommend some lodging?
- Petersburg, AK Chamber's Website - We really like: Nordic House, Scandia House and Salmonberry B&B
- Juneau, AK Chamber's Website - We really like: Goldbelt Hotel and Westmark Baranof
- Sitka, AK Chamber's Website -...

moreAm I allowed to bring additional alcoholic beverages?
Absolutely! If you would like to bring something we do not provide, you are always welcome to. There are liquor stores in all the towns we visit and we can easily direct you to the closest one for whatever you may desire.
However, if you would like to ship some specialty items from a local store (or your own collection), you are absolutely welcome to. Arrangements can be made through your airline provider as carry on, Alaska Air airfreight, USPS or UPS

What kind of clothing should I bring?
We recommend you bring whatever you are most comfortable in and pack to dress for layering. (i.e., t-shirt, long sleeve, sweater, jacket, etc) This allows you to add/remove clothes as needed, depending on the day and what type of activities we're participating in. The weather can vary widely and...
moreShould I bring my own toiletries?
We supply all linens including bath towels, hand towels and wash cloths. We also have bar soap, liquid soap as well as shampoo and conditioner (please note that our liquid soaps are both vegan compliant and gluten-free). If you have specialty soap needs, we recommend you bring those. In your...
moreHow much clothing should I bring?
If you can fit your luggage into 2 carry on items per person, that would be best. We can accommodate some luggage storage, but we are limited. We have a household washer/dryer and laundry service is available throughout the duration of your trip if you run short on clothing.
moreWhat kind of luggage do you recommend?
Soft bags or carry on size rolling bags we find to be the easiest to stow and handle in your guest cabins. If you intend to check or need more luggage space, we prefer a rolling duffle-style bag so that it can be flattened for easier stowage. Regardless of what you bring, we'll make it work so...
moreYacht VIAGGIO & Safety
What is a USCG 4-Star safety rating?
The USCG auxiliary inspects VIAGGIO annually to ensure we have appropriate safety items including: flares, a random drug testing program, life vests, working navigational lighting and more.
We request that the US Coast Guard come aboard to double check all of these items to ensure maximum guest safety in case of the rare emergency. We're very proud of our 4-star rating!
moreWhat kind of boat is VIAGGIO?
VIAGGIO is a Hatteras Motoryacht. It was originally built in 1981 and has been updated and retrofit continuously since we purchased her in 2008.
VIAGGIO's Dimensions:
- Length - 72'
- Beam - 18.5'
- Draft - 5'
What outdoor space does VIAGGIO offer?
VIAGGIO has a main deck with covered walkarounds for easy access from the enclosed aft deck to the foredeck. We really like this feature for photo ops during damp days on the water. On the foredeck, there is plenty of room for hanging out on a built in settee or standing along the rail enjoying wildlife viewing.
The flybridge deck has a spacious seating area with a couple forward facing helm seats and a u-shaped bench seat. On nice...
moreWhat accommodations does VIAGGIO offer?
VIAGGIO has 3 guest staterooms configured with 1 queen berth and 4 twin berths. All of the berths are at convenient heights and require no climbing to get into. The queen stateroom has a head en suite with tub/shower while the two twin staterooms share a head with shower only.
moreIs VIAGGIO Stabilized and, if so, what does that mean?
Yes, VIAGGIO is stabilized. Roll stabilization is a re-directing of water flow via external fins that counteracts the rolling motion. Generally speaking, VIAGGIO rolls less than comparable yachts without stabilizers.
moreFishing While Aboard
What happens if I want to fish and others in my group do not want to?
This is a typical scenario and we have experienced it many times and we gear our charters so everyone gets the custom experience they want. It's one of the main reasons we tow a fishing boat as opposed to fishing from VIAGGIO. Guests that would like to fish are welcome to do so and those that...
moreI'm coming on a Steelhead Exploratory trip, what gear should I bring?
These trips are focused around fly fishing and we expect most guests to bring their own personal gear including: waders, wading boots, fly rod(s), tackle, tackle vests and warm weather gear. While we do have some supplies to replace lost/damaged items, we cannot carry a full range of gear to fit...
moreWill I be required to fish from shore or wade?
No. During the summer season, we fish in the salt water from boats, so there will be no additional gear needed in order for you to fish.
However, if you've booked a Steelhead trip (Mid April-Mid May), we will be wading up rivers with uneven riverbeds and shorelines.
moreWhat kind of fishing can I expect to do?
During the summer season spanning from late May through September, we fish for Salmon, Rockfish and Halibut. During our spring Steelhead Exploratory trips, mid April through mid May, we primarily target Steelhead.
