This is always a sensitive issue that we do not take lightly. No one enjoys being seasick and, while we won't tell you it never happens, it's rare for us to have guests get sick while aboard. We have a couple secret weapons that help in this matter.
1) Captain Trig (who may or may not get seasick himself) is mindful of the fact that someone may not feel well and typically tries to plan around that. This is one of the reasons we've extended our trips to 8-days. 2) Our roll stabilizers on VIAGGIO help keep the boat from rolling side-to-side which is typically the motion that effects most guests that are susceptible to seasickness.
You will be called or sent an email reply by a real and trusted representative of our company. More than likely you will speak to a crew member or owner. We don't take lightly that you've taken time to inquire with us and we want to make sure your questions are answered quickly and accurately.
We are also of the belief that cruising the Pacific Northwest and Alaska sells itself, so we prefer to approach your inquiry as an information sharing opportunity as opposed to a sales pitch opportunity.
When you decide you would like to book a trip with us, a signed contract and a 50% deposit to hold your date is collected. At that point, those dates are reserved for you and WILL NOT be available to anyone else. 90 days prior to your departure date, we will collect the other 50% and ensure that we have everything properly arranged for your unforgettable cruise aboard VIAGGIO.
We enjoy maximizing the value you get out of your trip, so we include the following in your cruise:
Yes, we include all applicable taxes.
Yes we do! We enjoy having children from infants to young adults. We pride ourselves on being a family friendly boat with many activities for those of all ages.
While your crew will not smoke, we do understand that you or some of our guests may enjoy tobacco products. For this reason, we do make a couple outdoor areas available with an ash tray for such requests.
Shortly after booking your trip, you will receive a packet with some information and preference forms. These packets will provide some additional information for you and anyone accompanying you, as well as ask some questions we would like the answers to. Once you send the preference forms back to us, we will build a custom itinerary and menu to fit your specific needs.
We will continue to make check-in contact as your trip gets closer in order to ensure that you are being taken care of by our referrals as well as providing any additional help or information you may need.
By special arrangement, we can accommodate pets. We simply take an additional (refundable) damage deposit and request that you be mindful of the fact that we will have to take your pet to shore multiple times throughout the day.
We recommend Alaska Airlines. Until recently they have been the only airline flying to/from Alaska. You may book your flights directly through their site at: https://www.alaskaair.com Delta does fly into Juneau and Sitka, but their service can be less consistent.
If you would like to travel by car or on foot, you can book travel on the Alaska Marine Highway which offers berthing as well as transportation. It will take additional time to make the trip, but is truly an amazing ride through the Inside Passage.
Depending on where and when you are embarking/disembarking, we will help arrange ground transportation for you with a taxi company or pick you up in one of our passenger vans.
Most of our trips begin/end in a town serviced by Alaska Airlines and Alaska Marine Highway including: Ketchikan, Juneau, Wrangell, Sitka or Petersburg.
However, we can actually board you nearly anywhere via seaplane. If you would like to arrive via seaplane, we can help you arrange a carrier.
While we always try to accommodate schedules, our days in port are limited and very full preparing VIAGGIO for your cruise. We have recommended some hotels for your convenience.
Meals, snacks, non-alcoholic beverages and service is all part of your inclusive package. Upon booking a reservation with us, you will be sent a Food Preference Form which our Chef will use to create a custom menu specifically for you. We can handle virtually any dietary restriction and pride ourselves on ensuring great, quality food that meets our guests' high standards.
Absolutely! If you would like to bring something we do not provide, you are always welcome to. There are liquor stores in all the towns we visit and we can easily direct you to the closest one for whatever you may desire.
However, if you would like to ship some specialty items from a local store (or your own collection), you are absolutely welcome to. Arrangements can be made through your airline provider as carry on, Alaska Air airfreight, USPS or UPS
We recommend you bring whatever you are most comfortable in and pack to dress for layering. (i.e., t-shirt, long sleeve, sweater, jacket, etc) This allows you to add/remove clothes as needed, depending on the day and what type of activities we're participating in. The weather can vary widely and every guest has a different comfort level, so again, pack for what will make you the most comfortable.
We supply all linens including bath towels, hand towels and wash cloths. We also have bar soap, liquid soap as well as shampoo and conditioner (please note that our liquid soaps are both vegan compliant and gluten-free). If you have specialty soap needs, we recommend you bring those. In your toiletries bag, you should pack the following:
Anything that is forgotten can probably be replaced in whichever port you will be embarking in. We also carry some complimentary items aboard in case of forgetfulness or loss. Please DO NOT stress. Remember, this is vacation and we're here to help you relax. If you have needs, please let us help you address them.
If you can fit your luggage into 2 carry on items per person, that would be best. We can accommodate some luggage storage, but we are limited. We have a household washer/dryer and laundry service is available throughout the duration of your trip if you run short on clothing.
Soft bags or carry on size rolling bags we find to be the easiest to stow and handle in your guest cabins. If you intend to check or need more luggage space, we prefer a rolling duffle-style bag so that it can be flattened for easier stowage. Regardless of what you bring, we'll make it work so please do not concern yourself too much with it.
The USCG auxiliary inspects VIAGGIO annually to ensure we have appropriate safety items including: flares, a random drug testing program, life vests, working navigational lighting and more.
We request that the US Coast Guard come aboard to double check all of these items to ensure maximum guest safety in case of the rare emergency. We're very proud of our 4-star rating!
VIAGGIO is a Hatteras Motoryacht. It was originally built in 1981 and has been updated and retrofit continuously since we purchased her in 2008.
VIAGGIO has a main deck with covered walkarounds for easy access from the enclosed aft deck to the foredeck. We really like this feature for photo ops during damp days on the water. On the foredeck, there is plenty of room for hanging out on a built in settee or standing along the rail enjoying wildlife viewing.
The flybridge deck has a spacious seating area with a couple forward facing helm seats and a u-shaped bench seat. On nice days, it's great to go up and enjoy the sun warming you and have a 360-degree view of the amazing sights.
At VIAGGIO's stern, we have a large boarding area which makes getting on/off the sport boat, tender or into kayaks a simple and safe task for everyone.
VIAGGIO has 3 guest staterooms configured with 1 queen berth and 4 twin berths. All of the berths are at convenient heights and require no climbing to get into. The queen stateroom has a head en suite with tub/shower while the two twin staterooms share a head with shower only.
Yes, VIAGGIO is stabilized. Roll stabilization is a re-directing of water flow via external fins that counteracts the rolling motion. Generally speaking, VIAGGIO rolls less than comparable yachts without stabilizers.
This is a typical scenario and we have experienced it many times and we gear our charters so everyone gets the custom experience they want. It's one of the main reasons we tow a fishing boat as opposed to fishing from VIAGGIO. Guests that would like to fish are welcome to do so and those that would like to stay aboard VIAGGIO for relaxation can do that as well. *IF you foresee someone in your group needing to fish much more than others, please contact us prior to booking so we can make arrangements to hire an additional captain.
These trips are focused around fly fishing and we expect most guests to bring their own personal gear including: waders, wading boots, fly rod(s), tackle, tackle vests and warm weather gear. While we do have some supplies to replace lost/damaged items, we cannot carry a full range of gear to fit everyone's needs, so please ask if you're not sure whether you should bring something or not.
No. During the summer season, we fish in the salt water from boats, so there will be no additional gear needed in order for you to fish.
However, if you've booked a Steelhead trip (Mid April-Mid May), we will be wading up rivers with uneven riverbeds and shorelines.
During the summer season spanning from late May through September, we fish for Salmon, Rockfish and Halibut. During our spring Steelhead Exploratory trips, mid April through mid May, we primarily target Steelhead.
No. Due to the concern of tracking invasive biological species from one river ecosystem to another, the ADF&G has prohibited the use of felt soled waders. Please bring spikes or lugged boots(preferred) for wading.
"We've been to Alaska many times, once on a large cruise. Viaggio redefined Alaska for us"
Fun is our goal and it's hard to enjoy your experience if you're worried about safety. We have the USCG inspect VIAGGIO annually in order to ensure everyone's safety.
