I want to wish you all Happy Holidays as we close another successful year and bid 2018 farewell! I hope this Holiday Season finds you and your loved ones well as we close the book on another great year and look forward to 2019.
This is the time of year that I am tinkering on boat projects and the thoughts of the past year, and my hopes for the years to come, keeps the wrench turning in my hand. It often reminds me that going into every season I think I’ve seen ‘the thing’ that can’t be topped, Then BAM! A season full of unforgettable and memory-making sights arrive to prove me wrong! The 2018 season proved itself to be no exception to that rule.
Beginning the season with some amazing steelhead fishing and making some new friends along the way was a great way to kick it off! The chrome sided fish with attitude and an uncanny ability to school the angler at the other end of the fishing rod are absolutely amazing to see.
We were treated to a large pod of curious Orcas swimming alongside the boat. Several smaller pods had joined to make this amazing mixing of groups. We were able to watch as they made VIAGGIO the central location of their interaction with each other.
During one of our cruises, a guest with a keen eye was able to spot a very tired moose finishing a 7-mile swim across Frederick Sound. We watched as he finished the last 1/4 mile across the choppy water and took a much deserved rest along the bank.
Some days the wildlife allows us a closer look in order to add to the amazing experience. The photogenic mountain goats we encountered gave us an in depth look at a goat's life. Sure, It looked like some goats just laying around and eating, I’m sure there was more going on there…
We were one of only a few boats at the face of South Sawyer Glacier when an epic calving occurred. Our friend that makes a couple hundred trips to the glacier annually, and has for the last 30 years, stated that the event we watched unfold was something that only happened about every 25 years. We were so thankful that we got to be there front and center for that show!
Top all of those things with beautiful weather and amazing guests; I feel like one very fortunate guy. I’m extremely thankful for the people that have become a part of my life over the years.
From guests, crew members, partners and friends to family and loved ones, everyone has helped add to my life. I look forward to meeting more of the same great people in the future and hold the ones I have met in the highest regard.
I hope you’re able to enjoy your families and friends as you get together to reminisce about the past year while strengthening the bonds that make them special to you.
Happy Holidays to you all!
